Current Research

My work focusses on comparative cognition. The aim of this research is to help broaden our understanding of the cognitive adaptations thought essential for the evolution of intelligence. Are there, for instance, ecological or life history traits that predict differences in problem solving abilities and point to selection pressures that shape cognition?

I am broadly interested in applying interdisciplinary techniques from the fields of ethology and experimental psychology to the study of animal cognition and behavioural flexibility.
